SA Local Govt Elections: November 4 Date Set, Registration Urged

The Electoral Commission of South Africa has urged eligible South Africans, especially young people, to register to vote in the upcoming local government elections, which will be held on November 4, 2026. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the election date, providing clarity for all role players and certainty of planning for the Electoral Commission.

Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo emphasized the importance of registration, stating that voters can only vote at the voting station where they are registered. To register, prospective voters can use the Commission’s online registration platform available at the Electoral Commission website or visit voting stations across the country on the national voter registration weekend, June 20 and 21.

Why Registration Matters

Registration details can also be updated on the site, and the Commission urges all eligible citizens to take this opportunity to verify their registration details early and participate fully in shaping the future of their local communities. The voter’s roll will officially close when the official proclamation of the election date is made by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
