A search operation is underway at Hazelmere Dam for Umhlanga businessman, Tony Govender, who is presumed to have drowned. The 54-year-old former Navy Officer had gone to the dam with friends on Friday to celebrate his birthday, but allegedly attempted to retrieve a jet-ski that had drifted away in strong winds.
According to South African Police Service, the search involved the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) helicopter and waterborne resources, however no trace of the man was located. Govender’s wife, Essie, said the family will continue the search on Sunday.

Prem Balram of RUSA said they will resume their search today, with the help of the SAPS Search & Rescue Unit and Metro Police Search & Rescue. The search operation is expected to be extensive, with multiple resources deployed to locate the missing man.
