A major operation by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, has resulted in the arrest of 45 motorists for drunk driving, including a groom and his father, whose wedding was scheduled to take place today. The crackdown, which took place late last night and into the early hours of today, has sent shockwaves through the community.

The arrested individuals, who include a lecturer, a safety manager, two teachers, two nurses, a pharmacist, a chief liaison officer from a local municipality, and a student, will face the full might of the law, according to Transport MEC Siboniso Duma. The MEC has delivered a stern warning, stating that the Department of Transport will not tolerate drunk driving on the province’s roads.
