A tragic accident on the M25 near KwaMashu in KZN has resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly driving his intoxicated father. The vehicle overturned multiple times, killing the young driver. According to South African Police Service, accidents involving underage drivers are a growing concern in the country.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reported that they responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls from the public. On arrival, they found that a blue Toyota Corolla Quest had overturned several times. It is alleged that the 14-year-old was driving the vehicle in the eastbound lane when he failed to negotiate a bend, causing the vehicle to veer onto the verge before rolling several times.

The vehicle came to a stop on all four wheels in the opposite lane, facing the westbound direction. It was established that the boy’s father was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The father was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in the minor operating the vehicle.

Consequences of Drunk Driving

Paramedics assessed the victim, who was ejected from the vehicle, and he sustained fatal injuries. He was declared deceased on the scene. The father was handed over to the police. This incident highlights the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of responsible behavior on the roads.
