Weather Woes: 5 Road Closures Hit SA Amid Heavy Rain

Severe weather conditions have prompted road closures across South Africa, with the Eastern Cape and North West provinces being the worst affected. The Road Traffic Management Corporation has issued a traffic advisory, warning motorists to exercise extreme caution when traveling.

According to the corporation, multiple roads remain closed across the Overberg, Garden Route, and Central Karoo regions due to flooding. However, the Huisrivier Pass and the Prince Albert–Klaarstroom route have since reopened. Motorists have been urged not to attempt crossing flooded roads, as dangerous water levels and damaged infrastructure continue to pose risks.

Weather Forecast

The South African Weather Service, as per their website on the South African Weather Service website, has warned that severe weather conditions are expected to persist in the Garden Route and surrounding areas following heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding.

Some of the key safety tips for driving in bad weather include:

  • Slow down and use low gear when driving uphill
