A massive manhunt is underway in the Eastern Cape after eight detainees escaped from the Afsondering Police Station cells in Maluti on Saturday. Authorities are pursuing multiple charges of escaping from lawful custody, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Escapees Identified

The eight escapees have been identified as Asiphe Yawu, Abraham Gobozi, Kwanele Mzala, Siphelele Mkhulisi, Thabo Nana, Siphelele Nondolo, Anele Ludidi, and Sinethemba Mazendala. The police are urging the public to assist with the investigation and to provide any information that could help locate the escapees.

According to Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, police spokesperson, the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are following all leads to ensure the suspects are apprehended. A separate investigation into aiding and abetting has also been opened to determine whether others facilitated the escape.

The public is urged to contact the investigating team immediately if they have any information that could help locate the escapees. The police are working to establish how the escape occurred and are exploring all possible avenues to ensure the suspects are brought to justice.
