A desperate search is ongoing for Poovin Nairainsamy, a 39-year-old truck driver from Durban who went missing after his vehicle was swept away by floods in Wolseley, Western Cape. Nairainsamy’s Scania R580 truck was discovered wrecked near the R46 outside Wolseley, but despite claims on social media that he had been found and admitted to a hospital in Ceres, there has been no official confirmation.

According to his wife, Roma Narainsamy, Poovin had been driving for Ubuntu Logistics, a Johannesburg-based company, for two months and had been a truck driver for five years. He was transporting a load of sugar to Cape Town when severe weather conditions struck the region. The last time Roma spoke to her husband was at 9pm on Monday, and after that, there was no cellphone connection.

Floods in Cape Town

The heavy flooding in Cape Town has caused widespread damage and disruption, with many roads closed and homes affected. The Cape Town authorities have been working to clear the roads and restore services. Poovin’s family is devastated by his disappearance and is appealing for any information that may lead to his safe return.

Roma said that her husband’s passion for truck driving was more than just a job, and that he loved driving long distances and being on the road. The family’s anguish has been compounded by the upcoming birthday of their young son, who turns 9 on Sunday. Poovin was meant to come back home on Saturday to celebrate his son’s birthday.

Search and Rescue Efforts

Search and rescue teams have been combing the area where Poovin’s truck was found, looking for any clues that may lead to his location. The authorities have also checked local hospitals, but there has been no sign of Poovin. The family is holding on to hope that he may still be found, and Roma has made an emotional plea for answers.

As the search continues, the family is trying to stay strong and hopeful. They are grateful for the support of their community and the efforts of the search and rescue teams. The incident has highlighted the dangers of flooding and the importance of being prepared for natural disasters.
