Orlando Pirates are just one win away from securing the Betway Premiership title after Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 3-2 loss to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night. With two games left to play, Pirates can win the title for the first time in 14 years if they beat Durban City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
The Buccaneers have a superior goal difference compared to Sundowns, who remain top of the log with 68 points, three ahead of Pirates. Galaxy, meanwhile, have saved their status ahead of next season with the crucial three points.
Pirates’ Title Hopes Boosted
Galaxy took the lead through a penalty scored by Victor Letsoalo in the 7th minute, after referee Jelly Chavani awarded a soft penalty for a foul on Seluleko Mahlambi. Seldwyn George then doubled Galaxy’s lead with a hard, low shot past Ronwen Williams in the 18th minute.
Sundowns fought back through Leon, who scored two goals in the first half, including a penalty. However, Galaxy punished a sleeping Sundowns defence after the restart, with Mpho Mvelase scoring the winner in the 46th minute.

Pirates now have a chance to win the title if they beat Durban City on Saturday. According to the Premier Soccer League rules, the team with the superior goal difference will be crowned champions if the two teams are tied on points. Pirates’ goal difference is currently better than Sundowns’, giving them an advantage.
