The Electoral Commission of South Africa has assured that the upcoming local government elections on November 4 will not interfere with school exams, as preparations are in place to minimise disruptions for students. The IEC has been working closely with the Department of Basic Education to ensure a seamless voting process.

Preparations in Place

The Electoral Commission has put in measures to avoid any disruptions to the school calendar, which includes the matric exams that are scheduled to take place around the same time as the elections. According to the Independent Electoral Commission, all voting stations will be equipped with the necessary resources to accommodate voters while minimising the impact on learning.

A spokesperson for the IEC stated that they have been engaging with school principals and administrators to ensure that the elections do not disrupt the school schedule. This includes making arrangements for alternative venues for voting stations that are located in schools.
