Social media has united in an outpouring of grief and support for the family of 12-year-old Morgan Mentoor, a talented young karate champion from George, who tragically took his own life on May 23, 2026.
According to reports, Morgan was a dedicated and passionate karate practitioner, who had also been an altar boy at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Conville, and had made videos professing his faith. His mother, Gaynor, has been sharing stories and memories of her son on Facebook, including a heartbreaking post about getting ready for church without him.
Morgan’s Legacy
Morgan’s school, Outeniqua Primary, has paid tribute to the young champ, describing him as someone who “touched” the school community. A Facebook post from the school read: “With deep sadness, we say goodbye to Morgan Mentoor, a beloved Grade 6 learner whose life touched our school community.
As the news of Morgan’s passing spread, thousands of people took to social media to share their condolences and memories of the young boy. One person wrote: “People who got to know him will feel and understand your pain. I met him and the short amount of time he captured not only my heart, but of the whole team he was part of…”.
