A dramatic scene unfolded in Ha-Mashamba, Tshivhuyuni village in Limpopo, when a 40-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly setting her ex-partner’s one-bedroomed house alight. The incident occurred on Saturday, following a heated domestic dispute between the suspect and her 45-year-old partner, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The dispute allegedly started at approximately 9:30 am, when the victim asked the suspect to remove her belongings and leave the premises due to their relationship ending. The victim then left for work, only to be alerted by a neighbour that his home was on fire.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of arson. This incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help and support in such situations. According to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, arson is a serious crime that can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment.

Some of the key consequences of arson include:

  • Imprisonment for up to 20 years
  • Fines of up to R100,000
