20,000 Kids Killed: Israel's Gaza War Crimes

Over 20,000 children have been killed in relentless attacks on Palestine by Israel, a staggering number that is equivalent to the student population of approximately 400 public schools. The film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, has reignited a spark of activism and calls for an end to occupation and genocide in South Africa.

The story of 6-year-old Hind Rajab, who lost her life in the conflict, is a heart-wrenching reminder of the human cost of war. The international community has repeatedly called for ceasefires, increased humanitarian access, and investigations into alleged violations of international law, but these calls have fallen on deaf ears.

International Response and Accountability

The United Nations has established an independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate abuses committed by both Israeli authorities and Palestinian armed groups since October 7, 2023. The Commission concluded that Israeli actions included attacks on civilians, starvation tactics, and collective punishment, and in 2025, stated that Israeli forces had committed genocidal acts in Gaza.

Several world governments have increased diplomatic pressure on Israel, with South Africa bringing a genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice. Other countries have suspended or reviewed arms exports to Israel, and there have been increased calls for ceasefire and condemnations of Israel’s attacks.

Investigations and Arrest Warrants

The International Criminal Court is investigating alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the war, and has rejected Israeli attempts to halt the investigation. In 2024, ICC prosecutors sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant, over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Some of the key findings and actions taken by the international community include:

  • The UN Human Rights Council established an independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate abuses committed by both Israeli authorities and Palestinian armed groups.
  • The Commission concluded that Israeli actions included attacks on civilians, starvation tactics, and collective punishment.
  • Several world governments have increased diplomatic pressure on Israel, with South Africa bringing a genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire. As the international community continues to call for an end to the violence, it is essential to remember the human cost of war and the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
