A violent confrontation between rival gangs in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein, has resulted in the arrest of six suspects, aged between 17 and 24, in connection with a gang-related murder. The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) conducted a swift operation following the registration of a murder case at Kopanong Police Station on Friday, at about 8 pm.
According to the police, the violence allegedly stemmed from retaliatory attacks after a member of the Maroma gang was allegedly stabbed and hospitalised during an earlier clash with the BTK gang. SAPS received a tip-off on Saturday, at around 10 am, which led to a coordinated operation across several residential areas in Phase 5 and the Sonskyn policing precinct.
