A 40-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested in Limpopo for possession of illicit cigarettes valued at R50 000. The arrest was made during a stop-and-search operation by members of the Provincial Flying Squad, who had received intelligence about a white Toyota Corolla with Gauteng registration plates allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes.
The vehicle was intercepted on the R37 road en route to Lebowakgomo, and upon searching, police discovered the consignment of illicit cigarettes. The driver, who confirmed he was responsible for delivering the cigarettes, was found to be in the country illegally, according to the South African Government regulations.
