A Phalaborwa mother and son have been charged with animal cruelty by the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) after a dog died due to prolonged neglect.
The dog allegedly suffered for approximately 14 months before its death, with the NSPCA stating that the suffering was preventable.
Animal Cruelty Charges
The NSPCA has laid criminal charges against the pair, who are set to face the consequences of their actions in court.
Preventable Suffering
According to the NSPCA, the dog’s death could have been avoided if the owners had provided proper care and attention. The organization is urging pet owners to take responsibility for their animals’ welfare.
Some of the signs of animal neglect include:
- Lack of food and water
- Poor living conditions
- Untreated medical issues
