The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced its second batch of mayoral candidates for municipalities across the Western Cape, naming six party members who will contest leadership of their respective local governments in the upcoming local government elections.
The candidates, spanning municipalities from Cederberg in the north to Mossel Bay on the Garden Route, include a mix of DA-governed municipalities and councils where the party is seeking to unseat incumbent administrations.
DA’s Momentum Gains Pace
The announcement was made by DA Western Cape Leader Tertuis Simmers, who said the new slate builds on the momentum established by the party’s first round of candidate announcements. The DA has pointed to a string of clean audit outcomes and governance awards as evidence of its administrative competence, as seen on the official government website.
Simmers framed the dual mandate as central to the party’s pitch to voters. “In municipalities where we do not yet govern, these candidates offer residents a real chance to get the municipalities working,” he said. “In municipalities where we do govern, these candidates will bolster and build on our proven record of service delivery.”
DA’s Track Record
The DA, which governs the Western Cape provincial government and controls several of its municipalities, has a track record of delivering basic services and creating jobs. According to the Western Cape Government website, the province has seen significant economic growth and development under DA leadership.
