Uitsig Mass Shooting: 2 Brothers Killed, 3 Injured

A devastating mass shooting in Uitsig, Cape Town, has left a mother shattered after two of her sons, Luchen Samuels, 19, and Angelo Hufke, 32, lost their lives. The brothers were shot by unknown gunmen on Saturday night while coming from a family gathering. Three others, aged 16, 19, and 29, were wounded and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Community in Mourning

The community is in shock and mourning, with many residents expressing outrage and sadness at the senseless act of violence. Community leader and anti-crime activist Bishop Adam Alexander spoke on behalf of the family, saying: “It is with deep sorrow and outrage that we confirm the tragic and brutal killing of two young men, Luchen Samuels and Angelo Hufke who lost their lives in a senseless act of violence.”

Alexander said the victims had just visited family and were passing the Gamble Pool area when unknown assailants opened fire. Both men were struck by bullets and tragically succumbed to their injuries. This devastating incident has left a mother shattered beyond words, as she has now lost two sons in one night, an unimaginable pain.

Repeated Loss

According to Alexander, the mother had also lost her eldest son to gang violence years ago. “No mother should ever have to endure such repeated loss. This is not normal. This is not acceptable,” he said. Luchen and Angelo were known to Alexander as young men trying to make an honest living. “They were inseparable in life, and now they are united in death through violence that continues to plague our communities,” he added.

Since Thursday, three young men have lost their lives in the same flats, leaving families broken and mothers grieving. The South African Police Service has confirmed the incident and is investigating the motive for the attack. Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said police members were patrolling in the area when they saw people running and were informed by the public that several people were shot by unknown suspects who fled the scene.

The following are some key facts about the incident:

  • Two brothers, Luchen Samuels, 19, and Angelo Hufke, 32, were killed in the shooting
  • Three others, aged 16, 19, and 29, were wounded and transported to a medical facility for treatment
  • The motive for the attack is still unknown and is being investigated by the police

As the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy, residents are calling for increased safety and intervention to prevent such incidents in the future. The high crime rate in South Africa is a major concern, and incidents like this highlight the need for urgent action to address the issue.
