A devastating mass shooting in Uitsig Avenue has left a mother shattered after two of her sons, Luchen Samuels, 19, and Angelo Hufke, 32, lost their lives. The brothers were caught in the crossfire when unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of people standing near a gambling table on Saturday evening.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and sadness at the senseless loss of life. According to South African Police Service, three other youngsters, aged 16, 19, and 29, were wounded during the shooting and are receiving medical treatment.
Community in Mourning
Community leader and anti-crime activist Bishop Adam Alexander spoke on behalf of the family, condemning the brutal killing of the two young men. “It is with deep sorrow and outrage that we confirm the tragic and brutal killing of two young men, Luchen Samuels and Angelo Hufke, who lost their lives in a senseless act of violence,” he said.
Alexander emphasized that the victims were not involved in any gangsterism or wrongdoing, and were known to be law-abiding citizens. “They were inseparable in life, and now they are united in death through violence that continues to plague our communities,” he added.
Repeated Loss for the Family
This is not the first time the mother has had to bury a child. She lost another son to gang violence a few years ago. The community is calling for the government to take decisive action to address the ongoing violence and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Some of the key concerns and demands from the community include:
- Increased police presence in high-crime areas
- Effective implementation of anti-gangsterism strategies
- Support for families affected by violence
As the community comes to terms with the tragedy, they are also calling for an end to the senseless violence that has claimed the lives of three young men in the same area since Thursday.
