A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl in KwaZulu-Natal. The incident occurred in 2022 when the girl was left in the care of the perpetrator, who was living with her family in the Maphumulo area.
According to Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal, the perpetrator called the victim into the house and instructed the other children to play outside before committing the crime. The girl’s mother noticed unusual behavior from her daughter upon her return and discovered that the girl had been raped.
Rape Incident Details
The perpetrator denied the allegations when confronted by the mother, but the case was reported to the police, and the victim received a medico-legal examination and psychosocial support at the Stanger Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC). The perpetrator was subsequently arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The court also declared the man unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. The NPA welcomes the sentence handed down, stating that it strengthens the fight against sexual violence.
