The Proteas Women’s team is set to face a powerful India squad in a five-match T20I series at home next month. India Women have named a strong squad for their tour to South Africa, which includes captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues. The ODI World Cup champions will play five T20Is across the country, starting at Kingmead in Durban on Friday, 17 April.

The Proteas Women’s team, led by Laura Wolvaardt, is currently in New Zealand, where they have already surrendered the five-match T20I series against the White Ferns. They will also face the Kiwis in a three-match ODI series before returning home to face India. The Indian squad is packed with talent, including Women’s World Cup Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma and exciting young player Jemimah Rodrigues.

Indian Squad

The Indian squad is as follows: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (WK), Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Thakur, Kranti Gaud, Sree Charani, Shreyanka Patil, Kashvee Gautam, Bharti Fulmali, Uma Chetry (WK), Anushka Sharma.

The series against India will be an important one for the Proteas Women, as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England later this year. The team will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing performance in New Zealand and make a strong statement against one of the top teams in the world.

The fixtures for the series are as follows:

  • 1st T20I: Friday, 17 April at Kingmead in Durban
  • 2nd T20I: Sunday, 19 April at Kingmead in Durban
  • 3rd T20I: Wednesday, 22 April at the Wanderers in Johannesburg
  • 4th T20I: Friday, 25 April at the Wanderers in Johannesburg
  • 5th T20I: Monday, 27 April at Willowmoore Park in Benoni
