The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) is secretly planning to overthrow the KwaZulu-Natal Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), with a meeting reportedly scheduled with the National Freedom Party (NFP) on Sunday.
According to a letter circulating on social media, the MKP will hold a meeting with certain political parties at a venue yet to be confirmed, in a bid to discuss a potential coalition government in the province.
MKP’s Covert Plan
The letter, dated March 3, appears to be signed by NFP’s Acting Secretary General Sunset Xaba and bears the party’s letterhead. It expresses the NFP’s readiness to participate in the meeting and engage in discussions aimed at stabilizing the GPU.
However, attempts to confirm the authenticity of the letter have been unsuccessful, with Xaba unavailable for comment. MKP spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela has also refused to respond to questions about the letter, citing concerns over its potential inauthenticity.
Secrecy Surrounds Meeting
Ndhlela argued that even if the meeting were to take place, it would not be wise to publicly disclose the details. “Think about it, would you go and talk about such a meeting and tell your enemies that this is what you are going to do?” he said.
The MKP has been vocal about its intentions to take over the provincial government, having tabled a motion against the Cabinet in December. Although the motion was unsuccessful, the party remains determined to achieve its goal.
The people of KwaZulu-Natal are eager to know what the MKP is doing to take over the provincial government, but Ndhlela insists that the party will only inform them once it has “sorted out whatever we need to sort out”.
Some of the key points to consider in this developing story include:
- The potential coalition government in KwaZulu-Natal
- The role of the NFP in the planned meeting
- The MKP’s strategy to overthrow the GPU
