The recent “China in Spring Time” event, hosted by the China Media Group (CMG) at the Cape Heritage Museum, brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the potential of China’s technological growth in developing Africa, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and electronics.
According to Dr Rutendo Hwindingwi, the doctor to patient ratio in Africa is a significant challenge, with an average of 1 to 10,000, compared to the recommended 1 to 1,000. However, China’s technological advancements, such as robotics and AI, could help bridge this gap, especially in healthcare and education.
China’s Tech Advancements
China’s rapid growth in AI and technology was showcased through a video demonstration of robots performing martial arts, highlighting their capability for complex tasks. This technology has the potential to be used in various services across the world, including healthcare, education, and more.
Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Les Govender, welcomed China’s zero tariff agreement, which is set to come into effect on May 1, stating that it would benefit not only South Africa but also the other 52 countries on the continent.
