Police in Cape Town have made significant strides in their efforts to combat crime in the region, with the seizure of a cache of drugs and firearms during weekend operations. The successful busts were made in various areas, including Belhar, Strand, and Athlone, with multiple arrests and confiscations reported.
According to Captain FC van Wyk, a police spokesperson, an intelligence-driven operation was conducted on Friday in Kanala Lane, Extension 13, Belhar, where a 9mm blank pistol with one blank round of ammunition was found. The pistol was handed in as an exhibit for further processing, and investigations are ongoing.
Drugs and Firearms Seized
On Saturday, members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) executed a search warrant at a premises in 6th Avenue Rusthof, Strand, where they seized a Stoeger Coeger 800F pistol with eight 9mm rounds of ammunition and 21 packets of tik. A suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, at a premise in Goede Plein, Kewtown, Athlone, a 40-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs. The police found 196 mandrax tablets, two sachets of tik, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. The suspect is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
