The battle for survival in the Betway Premiership has intensified after Orbit College secured a crucial 2-1 win over Magesi FC at the Seshego Stadium on Tuesday night. The victory has elevated Orbit College to 14th place on the standings with 23 points, while Magesi FC remains in 15th place with 21 points.
According to Wikipedia, the Premier Soccer League is the top professional football league in South Africa. The league is contested by 16 teams, with the bottom two teams facing relegation to the National First Division.
Relegation Battle Heats Up
Magesi FC coach Allan Freeze expressed his disappointment with the loss, stating that survival is no longer in their hands. “We had an advantage, we were playing at home. We depended on this home game to put us somewhere. We let ourselves down at home. Now it’s an uphill battle,” Freeze said.
In contrast, Orbit College coach Pogiso Makhanya was relieved with the win, which has given his team a fighting chance to avoid relegation. “We knew coming into this game that it was going to be a six-pointer against Magesi. We knew (if we lost this one) it was going to be difficult to survive. It’s a relief but we still need to fight for the next three games,” Makhanya said.
Upcoming Fixtures
Magesi FC faces a tough upcoming schedule, with their next match against title-chasing Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Orbit College, on the other hand, will host AmaZulu at home. The upcoming fixtures are as follows:
- Magesi FC vs Orlando Pirates
- Orbit College vs AmaZulu
