Wedding Planner Fraud on the Rise
According to the couple, they met Swart through a family member who had used her services for their wedding. Swart quoted them R53 000, but offered a R5 000 discount as part of a Black Friday special, bringing the total cost down to R48 000. The couple paid the full amount upfront, only to discover later that Swart had claimed bankruptcy.
Richardson explained that they had signed a contract and paid the full amount, expecting that everything would be taken care of. However, when they found out about Swart’s bankruptcy, they were left with no choice but to open a case of fraud at the Pinelands police station. The South African Police Service has confirmed that a fraud case was opened and the docket has been transferred to the Senior Public Prosecutor for a decision.
