Gauteng Mother Pleads Not Guilty to Murder of 11-Year-Old Son Jayden-Lee

Tiffany Nicole Meek, a 32-year-old mother from Gauteng, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge of her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek. The case has garnered significant attention in South Africa, with many calling for Meek’s release and questioning the evidence against her.

Meek entered her plea on Wednesday at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in Palm Ridge. Jayden-Lee was reported missing on May 13, 2025, and his lifeless body was found the next day near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex, just metres from the front door of his home.

Murder Charge and Additional Counts

In addition to the murder charge, Meek also faces charges of crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice. The state initially included a charge of child abuse, but this was later withdrawn due to a lack of evidence, as outlined on the South African Department of Justice website.

Meek’s bail application was denied on July 29, 2025, by Magistrate Annelin Africa, who cited concerns about Meek’s potential to interfere with the investigation. Meek had offered to pay R5,000 bail and argued that she was the sole breadwinner for her family.

Public Support and Online Petition

Despite the allegations against her, Meek has received significant support from the public, with many believing she is innocent. An online petition was started in September 2025, calling for Meek’s release and arguing that she had been treated unfairly by the court. The petition, which can be found on various online platforms, including Change.org, highlights discrepancies in the investigation and questions the evidence against Meek.

The case is set to return to court on April 22, 2026. As the trial approaches, many are left wondering what the outcome will be and whether justice will be served for Jayden-Lee and his family.
