Hugo Broos Demands Bafana Bafana Revival Ahead of Panama Clash

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has stressed the importance of restoring the team’s discipline and mentality ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Panama. Broos addressed the media at the SABC in Auckland Park on Thursday, where he announced his 23-man squad for the matches, set to take place on March 27 and 31 at Moses Mabhida Stadium and DHL Stadium.

The team’s performances at the recent AFCON tournament were disappointing, with Broos facing criticism for his squad selection. However, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has continued to back the Belgian coach, who has been tasked with leading the team to the upcoming World Cup in North America. According to the FIFA website, the World Cup is scheduled to take place in 2026.

Bafana Bafana’s DNA

Broos emphasized the need for the team to return to their ‘DNA’, which he believes was the foundation of their success in previous tournaments, including their bronze-medal finish at the previous AFCON. The coach explained that the team’s attitude, mentality, and discipline were missing during the recent tournament, and that these elements are crucial for success.

‘If you don’t have the discipline to arrive on time for meals, you won’t have the discipline to follow tactical instructions on the pitch,’ Broos said. ‘There’s also your attitude as a professional. What happened with Jayden Adams and Mbekezeli Mbokazi was not good, but they are back now and have learned from it.’

Second Chances

Broos has recalled several players, including Jayden Adams, who had previously been sidelined due to disciplinary issues. The coach believes that players can earn second chances if they show improvement and demonstrate a commitment to the team’s values. As outlined on the SAFA website, the organization is dedicated to promoting football development and excellence in South Africa.

Here are some key points to note about the upcoming friendlies:

  • The matches will take place on March 27 and 31 at Moses Mabhida Stadium and DHL Stadium.
  • The squad includes several recalled players, including Jayden Adams and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
  • Coach Hugo Broos has emphasized the importance of restoring the team’s discipline and mentality.

The friendlies against Panama will be an important test for Bafana Bafana as they look to revive their fortunes and prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
