A brutal taxi-related shooting in Delft South has claimed the lives of two people, including a rank manager for the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta). The incident occurred on Monday evening near the Palm taxi rank, where Zwelakhe Lingani, the 50-year-old rank manager, was driving a vehicle with a female passenger when gunmen opened fire.
Taxi-Related Violence on the Rise
According to reports, the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and heads. Police found 85 x R5 cartridges and 13 x 9mm cartridges on the scene, indicating a hail of bullets. The motive for the attack is believed to be taxi-related, according to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg. This incident comes days after three people were gunned down at the Delft taxi rank on March 12.
The South African Police Service is investigating two counts of murder. Delft detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Codeta spokesperson Nceba Enge confirmed that Lingani was a member of their association.
