The Manser family has embarked on a new adventure, sampling five ice cream cones along the Strand-Gordon’s Bay coastline, dubbed the Ice Cream Mile. After returning from a sailing trip across the Atlantic to Brazil, they were eager to satisfy their craving for ice cream, which had been driving them mad during their travels.
According to Riaan Manser, the False Bay coastline is home to the Ice Cream Mile, similar to Manchester’s famous Curry Mile. The family decided to try every ice cream parlour on the stretch, opting for mom-and-pop shops with an old-school vibe, as per the Western Cape Government’s support for local businesses.
Ice Cream Tasting Experience
The rules were simple: one soft serve and one traditional ice cream on the owner’s recommendation, both on traditional cones. The family set out to taste the best ice cream the coastline had to offer, starting with Tin Roof, which was tasty, nutty, and almost lost on their taste buds after trying the soft-serve ice cream first.
Next, they tried the Bar One vanilla milkshake, which was awesome but too sweet for Riaan. The youngsters, however, loved it. The family also visited N’Ice, which had multiple shops along the mile, and tried the blueberry cheesecake flavor, which was a genuine after-dinner treat.
Top Recommendations
Some of the top recommendations included the strawberry soft-serve ice cream, which was zesty and looked the best out of any soft-serve ice cream Riaan had ever seen. The mint-flavored ice cream was also a hit, with the choc-chips balancing the mint perfectly.
Here’s a list of the ice cream parlours they visited:
- Tin Roof
- N’Ice
- Gordon’s Bay ice cream parlour
- Strand promenade ice cream shop
- Beachside ice cream parlour
The family’s ice cream tasting experience was not only about the ice cream but also about the beautiful scenery and activities along the coastline, such as walking on the promenade, visiting the seaside marketplace, and speaking to fishermen.
As they walked back along the promenade, they enjoyed the stunning views of the beach, kite-surfers, paddlers, swimmers, and beachgoers. The experience was a perfect way to spend a Sunday, and the family was grateful to have such a wonderful Ice Cream Mile to explore.
