A wet and windy weekend is forecast for parts of South Africa, with the North West Province and the Free State expected to be hit by stormy weather. The South African Weather Service has issued warnings for these areas, as well as parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

The weather service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with heavy downpours and possible strong, damaging winds expected.

In Durban, a Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Durban, with damaging winds possible on Saturday. Sunday is expected to be overcast, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 21 degrees.

Regional Breakdown

The North West will be cloudy with morning fog patches in some areas, while the rest of the weekend will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts, becoming scattered in the extreme north-east.

In Mahikeng, Saturday will be cloudy with morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range between 16 and 29 degrees. On Sunday, light rain is expected, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 26 degrees.

The Free State will be cloudy with morning fog patches in places, with conditions becoming partly cloudy later, with cool to warm temperatures and showers over the central and eastern parts of the province.

Bloemfontein will be cloudy with morning fog patches on Saturday, becoming partly cloudy later, with temperatures ranging from 14 to 23 degrees. Sunday will be partly cloudy, with a low of 13 and a high of 26 degrees.
