Orlando Pirates legend Lebohang Mokoena has advised Mohau Nkota to consider rejoining the Buccaneers next season in a bid to revive his struggling career. The 21-year-old winger has failed to establish himself at Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq, prompting Mokoena to suggest a return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) could help him rediscover his form.
Nkota secured a move to Al-Ettifaq in July last year after an impressive breakthrough campaign with Pirates. However, his rise in the Middle East has been hindered by a lack of playing time, with the young attacker struggling to make an impact.
Pirates Return Could Revive Nkota’s Career
Mokoena, also known as “Cheeseboy”, believes Nkota’s experience abroad can be used as motivation to improve his game. Speaking on Soccer Beat, Mokoena said modern football places heavy emphasis on player statistics, and if Nkota’s numbers are not looking good, a return to Pirates could be the best option.
“These days football works around stats, and if your numbers are not looking good, I think the only option Nkota might have right now is to come back to the country, return to Orlando Pirates and try to rebuild himself again,” said Mokoena. The former Pirates star added that Nkota should use the experience abroad as a learning curve to identify areas that need improvement.
What Nkota Needs to Work On
According to Mokoena, Nkota needs to work on establishing himself in the Bafana Bafana team and becoming a regular. “Establish yourself in the Bafana Bafana team, become a regular, and for sure other doors will open because you already have a profile,” Mokoena said.
